They were the best of friends and it is rumored they were also lovers. But things have become sour now. Mexican songtress Yuri came with strong criticism against Ricky Martin's repertoire and that of other Latino stars such as Shakira, Miguel Bosé and the now disbanded group Mecano.
Having lived on the fast lane for many years, by her own confession, Yuri, a born-again Christian now, blasted out against the content of her colleages songs, saying they promote promiscous sex, drugs and violence. She made the controversial comments in an interview in Costa Rica where she tried to soften up her criticism by stating that these artists really don't know what to sing and that she didn't mean to hurt anyone with her opinions.
Yet she mentioned the theme "Livin' la vida loca", which catapulted Ricky Martin to international fame. According to Yuri, the song, composed by Robi "Draco" Rosa, denotes rebellion, glorifies drug use and contains the symbol of the dragon, an icon of Satanism. She went to mention the song "Fuego de noche, nieve de día", which in video form, she said, mimics a suicide, a practice condemned by Christian churches. Yuri stated that Martin has no clue about the song's damaging symbolism but reiterated that Ricky and the others were good friends of hers before she went into Evangelism.
